Epoxy SMC
Glass Fiber Reinforced Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) Epoxy is a subcategory of Epoxy. The additive is added during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 2000 to 4000 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 1500 to 2500 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 20000 to 35000 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 50000 to 70000 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 20000 to 30000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 30 to 40 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 0.5 to 2 %. Its hardness ranges from 55 to 65 Shore B. Its molding pressure ranges from 0.5 to 2 MPa.
Epoxy short-fiber prepregs are used to make parts requiring higher thermomechanical performance than polyester Sheet Molding Compound. An additional benefit of epoxy matrices is that, unlike polyester and vinyl ester matrices, they do not release harmful volatile compounds during processing or after polymerization, and therefore can be used for parts located inside a vehicle and other sectors.
